Did you ever play a game that had countless of parodies and references to other games?
Well, if you love a good old fashioned platform game at a time then this game might be for you! ;-)

Storyline: 7/10 well-executed
Getafix, the druid of the village of the Gauls turns out to be a traitor! Or is he...?
It is thanks to him that all the druids have been Kidnapped by roman soldiers who work for Ceasar.
Now Ceasar came up with a plan to build a gigantic amusement park simply called: Las Vegum, in which he shows thousands of villages that have been conquered.
Offcourse the Gaul village is one of them, so Asterix and Obelix are on a mission to stop Ceasar's evil amusement doing buisiness.

The story is obviously written for a parody and the in-game cutscenes contain a lot of jokes that are very similar to the franco belgian comics or cartoons of Asterix and Obelix.
All-in-all, it's a nice storyline, but the power of this game's storyline lies mostly in its jokes and\or subtle references.

As for this fact, you shouldn't look up when you suddently see romans dressed as Mario or Sonic, Atari styled flags, Viking boats painted as Spyro and even the Pikmin make an appearance. Not to mention the Bomberman shaped bombs and the Tetris walls!
There is even a fat little helper of Ceasar called: Larry Craft who is... yeah you guessed it, a parody of Lara Croft! XD
And if that's not enough, there are even Romans dressed up as Rayman! =P

Gameplay: 8/10 Easy but Fun!
As with most platformers that use 2 players at once, you can switch between Asterix and Obelix to overcome certain obstacles.
For example: Asterix fits in between tight spaces that Obelix can't get through and Obelix can use various machinery which Asterix can't and etc.
There are also a lot of puzzles that are based around this concept, you can for example stand on a lorry with Asterix that is hanging in the air and then you have to use Obelix to guide Asterix safely to another section.

For the rest the controls are thesame as in any other platformer, you can jump and punch for example.
In the fighting sections (or when you get into fights in general) you can also do some cool tricks like stunning an enemy by bouncing into him and then grabbing him. You can either then use him as a whip or throw him into another enemy or target.
Defeating enemies in this game is rather easy, untill you get to the slightly harder ones offcourse. Of some enemies you need to destroy their shield before you can kill them for example.

although the game is fun to play through it does have some problems. To name a few for example is that you get hit back a little too fast and\or too far, which makes it feel a bit bouncy and uncontrollable (it isn't uncontrollable, but it does feel that way when this happens)
also, the gravity and hit-detection can be a little thing to get used too as well, but once you figure things out it's not really a big deal and can be easly overlooked. (unless you're a person that starts searching for errors in a game.)
Also, I've noticed that some of the enemies endlessly keep spawning for no reason. (probably the creators forgot to add a check in some sections) so yeah... the game is kind of buggy. It's not really irritating (except when you're pushing a bomb offcourse, but that's usually part of the gameplay, especially when you have to kill a certain number of romans) but it can become somewhat of an annoyance.
Kicking romans into the air is fun, even by the thousands, but at one point there has to be a stop, usually you'll see it for yourself when you play. ^^;

Overall Score: 8/10 Good Game!
Asterix and Obelix is a fun game, but don't expect a powerfull platformer.
It's a little popcorner if you know what I mean: Whenever you feel bored and you want to play a fun game filled with lots of cartoon humor, this game might be something for you.
I especially recommend it for fans of Asterix and Obelix, since it's a really fun game that stays true to the original comic and cartoon formula without looking old!

If you see this game somewhere, wether it's for the PS2, PC or even the DS and PSP versions (under the name "Mission: Wifix") Then definitly pick it up sometimes, I assure you that this is a very enjoyable game. ;-)
